I purchased this little book on the possibility that it might contain information of the functioning of Washington's Headquarters and the use of his Lifeguard while in Newburgh, New York in 1782. However, the book is really the story of Colonel Jonathan Hasbrouck, the owner of the house used by Washington, and the house itself over the years. As such it contained almost nothing of use to me. However, the book is interesting in that it casts light on a well-to-do patriot family from the French and Indian War to when the house passed out of the family's possession in 1850. If the reader has an opportunity to visit this historical site, this book would be a handy reference. However, it contains nothing of great historical importance, and can easily be read in an evening. The writing is clear and concise, but the coverage of the time during the Revolutionary War, 1775-1783, takes up only 25 pages.
